“Show and teach” and “See and learn”
The above mentioned quotes were given by the eminent mathematician Dr. Hukum Singh to the maths teachers of MRIS-14, Faridabad.
In order to bridge the gap between teaching content and pedagogy, it is important to bring about a change in the way it is taught using application skills. Dr. Hukum Singh commenced the workshop with a very simple example which forced the teachers to open their mind to think and observe differently. He emphasized that the country can grow only when mathematical knowledge is applied in various sectors of the economy, which in turn is possible when the vision is changed.
He demonstrated how to make and use teaching aids with the materials easily available. He motivated the teachers to make and carry their own teaching kit to the class so that she/he can bring a change in their teaching methodology while engaging the students.
The teachers made various 2D and 3D models on the spot and promised to make as many mathematical tools as possible for their subject. It was undoubtedly an inspiring and engaging workshop.
