The capacity to learn is a gift; The ability to learn is a skill; The willingness to learn is a choice. – Brain Herbert
It has been rightly said, “A Workshop is an opportunity to learn new skills”. It is a medium of connecting to another person’s world. We, at Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana believe that to become a great teacher or a great human being one must go beyond the text books and attend workshops or ongoing educational changes to truly master.
As long as teachers don’t act as learners they can’t keep themselves abreast with the current pedagogical developments. Keeping this in mind, training on Smart Class, Cybernatics and Communication Skills were conducted. The students learn more when they see rather than when they hear. With the motive of helping teachers develop a curriculum wherein they create lesson plans which are engaging and provide learning to the students using ICT in the classroom. The teachers were enriched with support, training and toolkits.
Cybernatics is a teacher instructional tool with hardware (white board, projector, computer and stylus) and was very well demonstrated by Ms. Shaina Ahluwalia, the computer facilitator. Leaving the concept of chalk-duster and even the board-markers, we are using this tool to bring out effective results and making classrooms- a happy learning zone.
Extramarks is a module used by teachers in making their class a smart class. The usage and the new added concepts were well explained by Mr. Amrinder from Extramarks Co. Smart Classes which have exposed the students to 21st century teaching-learning environment.
A workshop on Communicative Skills was organized for the teachers of Early Years and Primary School with an intend for intact team work. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Malka Kaur (English Language Facilitator) who informed about the necessary ingredients of any conversation and how different communication styles affect personal style. She shared that we must appreciate the art of conversation through the role of speaker, listener and observer as well. She also shared that we need to understand how non-verbal communication and feedback influence how your message comes across. Effective listening skills are crucial to communicate effectively both inside and outside the organization.
The participants discussed and presented their view point as to reach their desired outcomes by integrating emotions with their thoughts.
School Principal Dr. Rupali Saini said that all teachers should be ready to unlearn and relearn for their better personal and professional growth.
