The students of Astronomy Club of Grades V-IX went for an Overnight Sky Observation at Jwarna, Uttarakhand, between 22nd and 24th March 2018. The trip was organised by MARS Education, as a part of its on-going curriculum.
The group of students were divided into three modules on the basis of their level of learning on Astronomy.
The students of module 1 learnt how to use Planisphere and locate various celestial bodies such as planets, galaxies, constellations, etc. Students of module 2 were briefed about the details of photography, camera handling, setting up of telescopes and hunting for deep sky objects. They also learnt about Astro photography. The students of module 3 learnt about the working of telescopes, Spectroscopy, handling of the latest state-of-the-art photography equipment and capturing star trails.
The organisers, MARS Education, also took the students of Module 2 and 3 for a 5 km trek through the Deodar forest wherein they saw local flora and fauna and various snow-capped peaks of Garhwal Himalayas such as Banderpunch.
These interactive sessions quenched their thirst for Astronomical knowledge so far. The beautiful location of the resort, away from the city crowd, enchanting wilderness, whispering pines, warm and comfortable tents and lip smacking food made it a trip to cherish.
