‘All children belong…all children learn in different ways…it is every child’s right to be included.’ Belief in this philosophy was the quintessential essence of the introductory and the motivating session by our Principal Ms. Anju Dhawan.

Hurdles are masked opportunities … accept and overcome the challenges to be equipped for the future. She shared that the success mantra of class engagement is to Excite, Engage and Empower the stakeholders, be it the students, teachers or parents. The meaningful opening prayer of the session set the ball rolling for the layers of learning being unveiled in quick and brisk sessions.

The SWOT analysis and the learning takeaways forced the team to introspect and identify their potentials. The binding thread and the Human Chain with the powerful and melodious school song aptly motivated and closed the session.

Ms. Geetanjali, the school counselor conducted a session on ‘Knowledge, Skills and Attitude’. Upskilling ourselves on the global stage, managerial and administrative skills, bridging attitude gaps, and supportive learning were the key success factors depicted through a powerpoint presentation.

The session was concluded by Ms. Dhawan with a beautiful quote, “Happiness is a universal language” and wished each one happiness and sunshine.

“Travel is rich with learning opportunities and the ultimate souvenir is a broader perspective”.

Students of MRIS, Sector-46 and 51, Gurugram visited the United States, the land of liberty, from 3rd to 13th June as part of the US East Coast Career Exploratory Programme. Students explored the states of Orlando, Washington D.C., New York and Boston.

Students visited Kennedy Space Centre in Orlando, and went on a guided Space Centre bus tour and got an access to historic launch sites and observed various working space flight facilities at NASA. Interaction with the veteran astronaut Ms. Anna Lee Fischer gave students a greater insight into the life of an astronaut.  Everyone was left awestruck as they saw Atlantis and its interactive gallery. The NASA tour gave the students an opportunity to know the story of humans in space. Thereafter, in the following two days they visited the Universal Studios and the Sea World. While having fun at the amusement and theme parks, students’ attention was drawn to various career possibilities available at a theme/amusement park.

Moving to Washington D.C., students were impressed by the rich historical significance of the city and they also appreciated its architectural beauty. They visited the Smithsonian Natural History Museum and gained a better understanding of human evolution through archeological traces and historical evidences present there. A guided city tour enlightened them further about the Whitehouse, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial and other historical buildings and sites.

The majestic Manhattan skyline welcomed the students to New York. A ferry ride took them closer to the Statue of Liberty and its history. The imposing structure left all mesmerized. At the Wall Street, students were taken on a guided tour by former investment bankers. The tour ended with the students putting up a simulation of the Wall Street trading market. Students also attended an interactive theatre workshop conducted by theatre professionals at Broadway. Visit to the Times Square brought the students face to face with ‘the city that never sleeps’. The visit to UN headquarters provided students with an opportunity to understand international political affairs better.

The last stop in the trip was at the ‘Bean Town’ Boston.  Students here got the opportunity to visit one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the US, Harvard. This was followed by students exploring the Berklee College of Music music as a career option. The career exploratory programme came to an end with a visit to the MIT that focuses primarily on STEM. Students actively participated in a hands-on robotics workshop at MIT Museum and were briefed about the admission path.

As the trip concluded, students returned to their homes richer in experience and exposure.  The US jaunt helped them view various career options and processes (aerospace engineer, financial trader, archaeologist, political affairs officer, robotics engineer, theatre artist) from close quarters. They bonded with new friends, formed memories of a lifetime and now have a greater understanding of the direction to chase their dreams.

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”

There’s so much being offered in schools today but something very important which children need to be sensitized about is ‘Our environment’. Keeping in sync with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, students of Manav Rachna International School, Noida are made aware of their responsibility through Annual projects.

Students of Grade II Nilgiri had one such session on July 1st as a part of their Solid Waste management project. The young minds were shown videos on harmful effects of plastic on environment. They identified sustainable ways of living such as reuse of bags, always carrying cloth or jute bags, avoiding unnecessary use of plastic such as gift wrapping sheets and finding more eco friendly alternatives to such uses.

The students brainstormed and tabulated where they can find plastic waste around them and what can be done to reduce this. They even made paper bands stating “I will keep my surroundings plastic – free”, and campaigned in their school and buses to spread this message around.

The school hopes to do its bit towards environment conservation and raising the consciousness of the children towards it.

Play is the primary way for toddlers to learn about the world around them. Water play is one of the most important and simplest ways to provide sensory play to toddlers. A fun Water Scooping and Transferring Activity was organized for toddlers to improve their fine motor skills, and eye-hand coordination all through scooping, pouring, and transferring objects. In this activity, children were given a tub full of water and so many balls and other objects into it. They scooped out and transferred the objects from the water to another container with the help of a ladle.

It enhanced eye-hand coordination and grip. They also learnt new words like scooping, pouring, transfer, etc. It was a treat to the eyes to see them enjoying the activity thoroughly.
